How to Combat Feeling “Promote-y”

Is there a line you’re afraid to cross for fear of being called too pushy or salesy? Yeah, me too.

Which brings me to Facebook live. I’ve been wanting to get on live, but very resistant for some reason.

Here’s the story I’ve made up in my head: Facebook Live is the ultimate level of self-absorption, promotion, salesy-ness and all-around narcissism.

(whoa… writing this, those words came out and I didn’t realize the depth of my resistance!!)

And there’s more. What if I say something stupid? What if I have something in my teeth (and it’s on Facebook forever)? What if someone accuses me of being self-absorbed? (oof – gut punch!)

But… I love talking.

I love sharing what I’ve learned.

I love being a positive impact.

I love being goofy.

I love including people in a story that could help them succeed, that make them nod and smile knowingly.

I love it when someone says, “I saw/heard/read something you said, and it helped me so much!”

I’m at war: old stories vs. what I love.

Fears vs. helping.

And the bridge? It just popped into my head.

Encouragement.

I learned one time that when you encourage others, you gain courage for yourself.

Encourage.

If I can stay in encouragement mode, then if someone calls me promote-y… it holds no energy. No influence.

Encourage.

It’s about me being full to overflowing and sharing with you.

Encourage.

Courage for me, courage for you.

Click here to see my first Facebook live attempt… it’s packed with encouragement. And courage.

Founder Mary Cravets started Simply Get Clients because she saw small business owners complicating growing their businesses. Or falling victim to the "build it and they will come" myth. So she developed the simple structure to cut through all the noise of social media, "experts", online funnels, advertising and more to focus on the central problem of business owners: getting more clients. And you know what? There is NOT a one-size-fits-all solution.
